Objective: | Seeking a challenging,
hard working, top flight position delivering first rate distributed
systems or object technology solutions. I offer extensive, full lifecycle,
hands on experience of developing with both object oriented and structured
development methods over a broad range of project sizes and technologies
to measured high standards. |

J2EE Architect |
Architect credit card and banking e-commerce solutions. Develop POC systems and issue designs for coding of business components offshore. Build
required infrastructure components. Integrate legacy technology (Mainframe CICS Cobol & MQ) into J2EE (IBM WebSphere) and Chordiant for a non-web
facing CRM platform.
Contract (6 + 3)
|
4/2003 - 9/2003 | Unisys | Milton Keynes, UK |
J2EE Specialist |
Design and build J2EE components and integrate with the Oracle toolset to build a large scale web based data management system for Britains largest telecomunications provider. Integrated Oracle Workflow, IFS (CMSDK) and J2EE. Developed conversions of COBOL (EBCIDC) mainframe data to xml.
Contract (3 + 3)
|
4/2002 - 4/2003 | Advantica Stoner | Loughborough, UK |
J2EE Technical Specialist |
Designed and Developed J2EE/EJB components to integrate an existing Forecasting application (in C++,
Java and CORBA) into the J2EE environment. Developed and deployed new Enterprise Java Beans and associated technology. Mentored staff on development using Ant, Oracle OC4j, Corba, ClearCase and J2EE technologies integrated in NetBeans and delivered working products to Transco, Wipro and Advantica Stoner. Developed repeatable build, test and deployment using Rational Rose, NetBeans, ClearCase, JUnit, and Ant to help push back integration and unit testing from release to development and promote 'continuous' integration. Instigated formal peer code reviews. Ported existing Windows NT (Visual) C++ applications to HPUX and built an abstracted interface to the xerces (C++) XML library. Developed Unix infrastructure components to manage the application and a Windows NT Service to manage Java applications. Contract (3 + 3 + 3 + 3)
|
12/2001 - 4/2002 | Barclaycard | Northampton/UK |
J2EE Architect/Designer |
Designed and
implemented a large scale multi tier J2EE based web site ('My Account') connecting the mainframe, web browsers and
unix systems to provide a highly available account services system with IBM Websphere, Together/J (UML).
Designed and built components from Use Cases through to deployed J2EE components. Mentored other staff. Supported the live implementation and developed repeatable deployment and development process. Integrated legacy 'C' cryptography code via JNI. Proof of concept work for migration from Websphere 3.5 to 4.0 including risk assesment and cost/benefit evaluation. Developed deployment packaging using ANT and J2EE. Peer review of design and implementation work.

10/2000 - 12/2000 | CapitalOne | Nottingham/UK |
Java Analyst Designer |
Hired to develop and
build a new order processing system for Telecomunication customers.
CapitalOne were frustrated by OFTEL marginalising the business case. I designed and built a simple 2 tier fraud score card for
detecting telco fraud using Java, Swing and Oracle 8i. I also developed a proof of concept J2EE order processing application using
JSP and J2EE components, and used this as a vehicle to develop understanding of J2EE's capability in the telco team.
|
4/2000 - 11/2000 | i2 Technologies | Nottingham/UK |
Analyst/Designer/Team Lead |
Desiged and Built a multi-tier
CORBA and J2EE logistics monitoring application. I developed the user
session management tier comprising stateful cached logistical movements
information, and a simple graphical user interface to help maintain
logistical views and provide an integrated testbed. Provided code and
design reviews and was subject to formal peer reviews of all work produced.
|
4/1999 - 4/2000 | Barclaycard | Northampton/UK |
Lead Analyst/Developer |
Built Java internet
payments gateway providing services to multiple payment systems inside
Barclaycard - including the barclaysquare.com shopping portal, internet
merchant services, and the Barclaycard account services portal account
payment web pages on top of the 'Retail Logic' APACS payments gateway.
Provided a scaleable, resilient and reliable platform handling millions of pounds of payments per working week. Developed JSP based 'Integrated Ideas' scheme. Incorportated C/C++, html, Servlets and Java 1.2.

distributed pricing management application in Swing with a Java/CORBA/C++
back end and Oracle database. Full lifecyle development including SelectOMT (UML) analysis and design, and implementation using Visual Cafe/Swing. C++ and CORBA fault finding and tuning.
|
2/1998 - 7/1998 | Boots the Chemist | Nottingham/UK |
Advanced Technical Specialist |
Taken on as permanent
member of the team to help introduce and implement new technology and
methods. Sucessfully introduced iterative and incremental development to
project management and end users. My views of the scope of change required
and the level of support from management meant that my objectives could
not be achieved so I decided to move on rather than accept mediocre
changes. Lead Analyst/Designed for web based HR system. Introduced iterative and incremental development. Peer reviewer for technology direction and development processes.
|
11/1997 - 2/1998 | AT&T Telecomunications | Redditch/UK |
OO Designer/Developer |
Built a web based
shopping mall using server side java script and Netscape iPlanet
(suite-spot) for an AT&T 3rd party. Design using Select/OMT and implemented using classes and instances in server side java scrit. Built on top of an Oracle database comprising virtual shops, vendors, stock, order processing, fullfillment and payment (OpenMarket).

Full life cycle
development of a score card building system in Visual C++ on Windows NT
and Windows 95. Design documented using Select OMT. The system was
distributed using Microsoft ONC/RPC and split with a complex GUI and back
end running on Windows NT, on top of a Sybase database. I introduced a number
of distributed techniques including hybrid data storage of row and column data with Object
streams (Serialisation).
